Holt Jr. Rams White- 5 Stockbridge Mustangs #1- 5

Well if you were not at the game, you missed a great, tense and exciting game.  The game went the full 6 innings which hardly ever happens at this U10 age group.  It was a defensive battle through fielding and pitching with great plays and special hits.  The Holt Jr. Rams took an early lead in the first inning 3-1.  Stockbridge scored 1 run in the second holding the Jr. Rams scoreless while down 3-2.  The third inning both teams were scoreless.  The fourth inning Stockbridge scored 1.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Holt Jr. Rams had 2 runners in scoring position but were not able to capitalize resulting in a tie game 3-3.  In the fifth inning, both teams were scoreless.  The sixth and final inning was an absolute barn burner.  Carson, the impressive one armed player,  hit a crushing 2 run homerun giving Stockbridge  the lead 5-3.  In the bottom of the sixth, the Holt Jr. Rams first 2 batters struck out giving Stockbridge a huge momentum and advantage deflating the Holt Jr. Rams morale.  Andrew our hot hitter came up to the plate.  Andrew hit a solid shot to the outfield resulting in a triple.  With a runner at third and the tying run at the plate, the Jr. Rams batter Luke was unfortunately hit by the pitcher putting the Jr. Rams tying run on first base.  Luke, the tying run, was given the steal sign and the catcher threw a perfect throw to second.  Luke sprinting hard slid under the tag dodging a crucial out by getting a close call putting the tying run in scoring position.  Up came Kody who crushed a single to right field scoring both runs tying the game.  With Kody on first, coach gave a risky signal to steal second hoping Stockbridge would make a fielding error at second to send him to third and possibly home.  With the risky call, the catcher threw a bullet to second base getting Kody out at second.  It had to be a perfect throw and execution by the catcher and second base which Stockbridge succeeded.  The game ended in a tie 6-6.  This was one of the most exciting games to see.

All three Holt pitchers only allowed 4 hits in the game. Brandon pitched 3 exciting and brilliant innings having 7 strike outs.  Jakob pitched 2  1/3 smart and strategic innings having 3 strikeouts.  Jackson came in the sixth having 2 strikeouts saving the Jr. Rams from a potential nightmare loss.  All of the pitchers were outstanding!

In Fielding, Jacob did a great job in the outfield backing up the infield which he is consistently playing his position correctly.  Luke, Jakob and Kody all caught complex fly outs.  Jakob threw a runner out at first.   Kody almost turned a double play, however the call on the field caused confusion. The correct decision was made.  Austin and Cole both did a great job catching only allowing 5 stolen bases on a fast running team.  Both made great stops behind the plate. Cameron did a great job at 3rd base communicating to the team and in the outfield stopping a base hit from becoming a homerun.

Hitting was fun to watch with a combined 7 hits.  Brandon and Andrew each hit a triple off of crushing hits that went past the outfielders.  Jackson and Jakob both hit a line shot fly outs that the fielders had their Lucky gloves in the right places to get them out.  Kody, Luke, Jared, and Andrew all contributed with singles.  Leading hitter was Andrew with 3, followed by Kody with 2, while Luke and Jared each had 1.  Cameron and Jackson were each walked.  Jared had his first hit with his brand new bat and it was a hard shot to right field.

Congratulations Holt Jr. Rams on tying the game with one of the best teams we will face in our league.    Our next game is against Williamston at Williamston. I apologize over the length of this article but there was a lot to cover in this game.

Special note,  I hope you had a chance to see the player from Stockbridge, Carson, the impressive 1 armed player.  The positions he played -pitcher (threw the ball over 50mph), catcher (for 3 innings), and played the infield.  He hit a HR, single, and double just short of completing the hitting cycle.  He was absolutely fun to watch!  (Of course our kids were absolutely fun to watch!)
