Holt U12 Clash part 2: White vs. D&M

6/30/10: Holt White took on Holt D&M again in their second matchup in PONY league play.  Like their first meeting, it was a nail biting battle at the end.  Holt White came in with winning on their mind and the 10-0 Holt D&M team came in thinking the game was automatically theirs.  Holt White pounced early by denying Holt D&M any runs in the first inning while posting three for themselves.  In the top of the second inning Holt D&M managed to claw in 3 runs to tie it up 3-3.  Then they had visions of giving Holt White a goose egg of their own after striking out the first two batters; however Holt White had visions of a two out rally and racked up 6 runs only to be stopped by the single inning mercy rule.  Holt D&M’s bats fell flat again in the third inning and were not able to score any of their base runners, while Holt White punched in 3 more runs to make the score 12 – 3 going into the fourth inning.

We’re not quite sure what coach Denison told the boys on the D&M team (maybe we don’t want to know), but with their perfect record on the line they finally woke up out of their daze and smacked in 6 runs in the fourth inning while tightening up their defense to  hold Holt White scoreless.   With one more inning of play the score was 12 – 9 with Holt White in the lead.  Holt D&M came out strong again with some key base running and some very key hits to put them up 14 – 12.  Holt White was the home team and had last bats and one final chance to pull out a much deserved victory.  However Holt D&M held strong and pitched out of the inning without giving up a hit, giving Holt D&M 11 straight wins and just one win away from a perfect season.

Congratulations to both teams for a well fought and exciting battle!!

Holt U10 Brown posts a big upset against Fowlerville!

The team chalked up another win on June 28th, by defeating the Fowlerville Lightening squad
5-2. The run for 2nd place of the U10 B Division is now on! Ethan's bat struck their "lightening ball" three times-he landed 2 triples and a double for 5 RBIs!! They just couldn't get the ball past him. Bryce and Max both connected twice for singles, and Dalton hit the game winning single to clinch the upset. Great pitching again by Evan, Ethan, Dalton and Max kept their batters from scoring in the last 5 innings of the game. The boys have yet to play East Lansing and Fowlerville, and 2 wins might just be enough to land a 2nd place finish behind the undefeated Charlotte Orioles.

Holt U10 Brown wins again!

The bats were on fire again for the Holt Brown U10 squad against East Lansing on June 24th. The mercy rule went into effect with some outstanding hits for a final score of 15-5. Ethan had 2 amazing stand up triples, with Evan, Dalton and Max each helping out the cause with singles. The game only went 5 innings and had some tough pitching from Evan, Ethan and Dalton. These guys are on a roll-keep it up boys!

Holt Black U-10 2nd Place at Mason

Holt Black U-10 placed second in the Mason tournament this last weekend by beating Haslett 9 to 3 and beating Mason 10 -1 but lost the championship game 6-3 to the Lansing Tigers. However that game was also cut short so you never now what would have happened!  The boys were very upset that they called the game due to the weather and now want to play in another tournament. I just want to say that I am very pround of this team!  They really have came a long way and really have heart and want to win and play as a team.

Holt U12 D&M wins PONY division outright

The bats may have been cold the previous evening for the Holt Jr. Rams U12 D&M team, however they were on fire Thursday evening as they incinerated the lowly East Lansing Mudhens on their home field with a score too ridiculous to post.

This tenth straight PONY league win of the season guarantees the U12 D&M team outright 1st place in their division.  Now their goal is to remain undefeated for the season.  In order to do this they have to get by Waverly one more time as well as Holt U12 White.

Congratulations on 1st place Team D&M!!

Holt Brown U14 beats Mason 17-8 on Wednesday night

Leading 7-2 Holt gave up six runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to go down 8-7, but in the top of the fourth inning we roared back with a 9 run inning of our own.  Then added one more in the 5th inning.  One more regular season game left for the boys before our end of the season tourney.  Keep  it up guys.

Holt U12 D&M clinched 1st place with 7 - 6 victory over Waverly

The Holt Jr. Rams U12 D&M Silkscreen team clinched at least a share of 1st place in their PONY division with a narrow victory over Waverly last night.  They are now 9-0-0 and just one more victory away from grabbing 1st place outright.

The Ram's bats were colder than usual last night which made for a tighter game than they have been accustom to.  Coach Mike commented “It was nice to see the boys hang in there as a team, we spent some time bunting at practices and it paid off last night.  Pitching was strong…”

Great job D&M Jr. Rams!!!  The next game is tonight at East Lansing.

Holt U10 Brown splits at St. Johns Tourney!

The Rams downed Mount Morris in game one of the St. Johns Tournament on June 18th by a score of 14-2. Dalton and Ethan pitched and struck out 11 batters in a combined 4 innings. The bats were swinging as singles were made by Ethan, Cameron M, Dalton, Bryce, Max Andrew and Jackson while Jacob blasted a double!
Game two was a different story as both the offense and defense struggled against St. Johns. We lost 4-12 with only one hit made by Evan, while 7 batters were retired with strikeouts. Our pitchers faltered as well, they walked 14 batters while only giving up 2 hits.
The next game was against Grand Ledge Silver, and our boys stepped up to the challenge! Our pitching combination of Dalton, Ethan and Evan each pitched 2 innings and together struck out 10 batters in those 6 innings. We had just enough fire on our bats to pull out the game by winning 7-5. Ethan, Dalton, Max and Andrew each landed on base with singles to help their team come out on top!
The semi-final game was against top seeded Grand Ledge Blue. We were outmatched both offensively and defensively. Our pitching staff could only strike out one batter and Dalton was our only player to land a single. Their pitching was so strong, they struck out 9 Jr. Rams and took the win 11-1.
We went 2-2 for the tournament but our bats finally came alive!

In another close game the Rams stranded the tying and winning runs on 2nd and 3rd in the last inning to fall just short to East Lansing.  The Rams are back in action in a Saturday matinee game in Williamston.

Holt U12 White came from behind to edge out Mason

Thursday night the Holt Jr. Rams U12 White team found themselves in a huge hole by the third inning of the game against Mason.  In a stunning turn of events, where the boys were down 9-1, they chipped away until they eventually caught up and tied the game forcing an extra inning.  It was that inning that gave them the opportunity to score the game winner with a close play at home plate. Refusing to allow any pessimism at the onset of the near loss, the boys played strong and edged out Mason by a single run giving them a two game winning streak.

Holt U-10 Black Bounces Back

The boys bounced back from a very hard loss on Monday to come back and beat Leslie 8 - 4 last night. Holt U12 D&M easily fends off Mason to retain 1st place

With Mason 6-1 and Holt 6-0, Mason had a chance to take over the first place spot in the standings if they beat Holt.  However that was not in the cards for Mason as they we not able to muster more than 1 run in any 1 inning, ending up with only 3 runs in the end.  Holt D&M, on the other hand, put on a hitting clinic with everyone on the team getting a hit.  The first three innings they scored 3 runs each, then posted 4 in the forth, and 6 runs in the fifth and final inning.  Great job Holt Jr Rams D&M.  Final score 19 – 3.

U10 Holt Gold Downs Mason and Okemos

In back to back games this week, the U10 Holt Gold Team beat Mason and Okemos.  On Wednesday, the team was able to come back for a 10 -5 victory after being down by 4 runs early.  The team did not give up and was able to start putting together some hits in the 2nd part of the game.

On Thursday in Okemos, the U10 Gold team bats were remarkable and they were able to defeat Okemos by a score of 17-2.  While the team hit well, pitched good and played great defense....the play of the game came in the last inning with a REMARKABLE TRIPLE PLAY....GREAT JOB!  Go Rams!!!

Holt U12 Clash: D&M vs. White

6/10/10: Two Holt Jr. Rams U12 teams went head to head on Thursday, in PONY league play, and had to battle to the very end.  Team White came to win and came out strong with 2 runs each, in the first, second, and third innings.  Team D&M posted 2 runs in the first inning as well but laid a goose egg in the second inning which eventually put Team White up 6 -2 at the halfway point of the third inning.  Team D&M finally woke up and posted 5 runs in the bottom of the third to put them up by one point.  Both teams cooled off a bit in the forth with no runs for White and just one for D&M.  However, Team White wasn't ready to give up yet and punched in 2 runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game 8-8.  Team D&M had last bats and one last chance left to stay undefeated in PONY play.  With one runner on base, he managed to steel second base, then on the next pitch he found himself in a pickle between second and third.  Luck being on his side he managed to escape and make it to third base.  Now with only one batter down and out and the winning run on third base, Team White takes a time out to discuss strategy.  Unfortunately for a spunky Team White, Team D&M snuck out the win with a daring steel home on a missed ball that the catcher could not locate.  The final score was 9-8.
Great job to both teams!!  A lot of hits, action, and nail biting!

Holt Jr Rams U10 Brown makes huge gains against Charlotte team.

The first meeting against the Charlotte Orioles on May 6th ended after playing only 4 innings with a loss of 0-12. This time the boys came back fighting with a fantastic defense in the May 25th game. Evan and Jackson posted the lone hits for the Rams. Although we lost the game by a score of 1-6, the opposing team's coach was impressed with our tremendous improvement, both offensively and defensively! That's something to be proud of as they lead our league with zero losses. Our conference record is 2-3 which puts us in 3rd place behind Charlotte and Fowlervile. Let's keep up the good work boys!!

Holt U10 Brown edges out Haslett!

The boys came back after a tough weekend in Fowlerville to show they mean business. Jackson, Dalton and Ethan all had singles while Jacob connected for a triple! Haslett tried to catch up but went scoreless in the last 2 innings of the game. Our boys came out on top for the win, final score was 8-5. Go Rams!!!

At the Fowlerville Tournament, our team had difficulty with the bats against Greenville in their opening game. We only had 2 hits, one each by Jackson and Ethan who also scored and the other run scored was by Evan. The final score was 3-7 with Greenville coming out on top.

In the second game against the Holt Jr. Rams Gold team, our boys had a little better luck with their bats but only in the 4th inning where they scored all of their 6 runs. We lost 6-20 but Bryce had a long triple to end the day!

The final game was against Southgate where we lost 4-15 and scored all 4 runs in the 3rd inning. Let's hope the batting practice will help in our next game!

Holt U12 D&M crushes Leslie 20 - 2 at home

6/3/10: The Holt Jr. Rams U12 D&M team continues their winning streak to start the season 5-0.  After getting some easy scores on walks and steals the first two innings the boys decided hitting was more fun and fired up the bats for the rest of the game until that pesky time limit stopped the game.  Leslie got some good hits also but our defense and pitching limited them to only two runs.  Great job guys... GO RAMS!

Holt Jr Rams U-10 Black Win 10 - 8

Well Holt Rams Black won a very exciting game against the Lansing Tigers 10 - 8 last night. We didn't play our best defense but our bats came through this night. I had some very good pitching again from Preston and Max and then came the bats when we needed them. The boys really wanted to win this game after Lansing really beat us bad the first time. I'm really proud of them for never giving up. So here's to the boys Cole, Max, Brayden, Michael, Preston, Tanner, Bradley, Nathan, and to little Kadin who got his first hit too. And yes we got this win with only nine players also.
