U12 D&M – Road Win vs. Williamston Suns

What a great way to start off the season!  The Holt Jr. Rams U12 D&M team took an early lead against the Williamston Suns and held on for a 5 – 3 victory on the road.

Jake G., Kenny, and Max each scored in the first inning for the early 3-0 lead.  Ethan pitched two great innings without giving up any runs.  The score remained 3-0 at the top of the 3rd inning.   Patrick pitched the next two innings and also did a great job.  The Suns were able to sneak one in on an unfortunate fielding error in the 3rd inning, but Spencer squashed any hopes for additional runs by catching an infield pop to kill the inning.   No runs by either team in the 4 th.

Hunter took over the mound for D&M for the final two innings of the game.  At the top of the 5th inning the score remained 3 – 1.  Patrick hit a single and was eventually batted in by Kenny.  Jake G. also got on base and eventually made it home by a series of stolen bases to put D&M up 5 – 1.  These insurance runs came at a great time as the Suns started to warm up their bats with some hitting that produced one run for them in the 5th inning.

At the top of the 6th, D&M was not able to get the bats going again which kept the score 5 – 2 going into the Sun’s final at-bat on their home field.  Things started out good with a strike out delivered by Hunter, however quickly got scary with an over the fence home run that fired up the Suns and made the score 5 – 3.   The Suns got another runner on base with a walk but another key strike out gave them two outs.  The next batter hit a laser to short stop but Spencer snagged it in the air for the final out, saved the game to keep the score 5 – 3 for the final.

While there were some simple errors that the team needs to avoid in the future, there were plenty of great plays also that secured the victory (such as a diving tag by catcher Kenny to deny a run and a deep fly ball in left field caught by Ethan, and many others)

Awesome job D&M against a good Williamson team!
